A native of El Paso, I studied art
at University of Texas. I have always had a passion for painting the landscape and people of the Southwest. As a child, I grew up along the Rio Grande river. My passion for the New
Mexico’s landscape grows out of my fascination with the colors of the
mountains, the light displays of sunsets, and the cool fertile valleys of the
Borderland.
It is my goal, to create works that capture the
changing light and bright clear colors and stark contracts of the local Southwestern
landscape. I love painting outside because it gives me a
chance to investigate a wide variety of color strategies, textures, and changing
light. The days that I paint “Plein Aire” are indelibly placed in my memory as well as my canvas.
A lifelong painter, my portraits of people of the Borderland are usually of women, children, and migrant workers. Working as a nutritionist in clinics on tribal lands and along the border with Mexico, I came to know the struggles of the migrant workers and the beautiful faces of the women and children of New Mexico. Building small houses for disadvantaged families in Juarez, Mexico, exposed me to the grinding poverty experienced in rural Mexico and the happy, hopeful faces of the children who flourish there, despite the poverty.
I am a member of “Plein Air Painters of New Mexico” and “Let’s Paint New Mexico.”
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
